Who we are

  • Robert Lawson

    Co founder

    Robert has a broad range of management experience in the food industry. He was Strategy Director of United Biscuits, Kraft Foods International and Premier Foods. In addition, he was Managing Director of Quorn and led the integration of RHM and Premier Foods.

    He began his career in management consulting working for Arthur D Little.  He has an MBA from INSEAD and graduated from Oxford University.

  • Ian Coulter

    Associate Partner

    Ian is a beverage industry and strategy expert and has spent over 12 years working in the soft drinks sector. He recently left The Coca-Cola Company where he headed up the New Ventures Unit and led the pan-European launch of ZICO coconut water. Prior to that he spent five years with Coca-Cola Europe acting as chief of staff to the Leadership Team, steering the business through 2 reorganisations. He was also Business Development Director At Coca Cola Enterprises. He spent 5 years as a Consultant at Boston Consulting Group where he focused on Consumer Goods, he has an MBA from INSEAD and an MA from Cambridge.

  • Will Carter

    Co founder

    Will is a highly experienced MD who began his career in consumer marketing on major UK food brands.  During his career he has run some of the UK’s leading grocery and snacking businesses as Managing Director of  United Biscuits UK, KP Snacks, Premier Grocery and as CEO of Whitworths. He was previously Marketing Director of KP Snacks, McVitie’s and Terry’s Confectionery.  He is a graduate of Oxford University.

    Melissa is a consumer insights specialist with 20 years of experience working in the sector, both with insight providers such as IRI and Dunhumbie as well as insight users including Pepsico, Kimberley Clark and Safeway

  • Peter Jung

    Senior Adviser

    Peter Jung is a veteran of the food industry having previously been CEO of Atlanta in Germany , MD of Evian and Volvic in the UK and CEO of the German retail chain Plus Discount.  He is currently managing partner of a recycling business and works with Food Strategy Associates advising on market issues in Northern Europe.  He began his career in brand marketing and sales with Henkel and then Danone in Germany.

    Clare is a category and shopper marketing expert with over 15 years of experience covering a wide range of categories and channels, to senior management level.  In the food and drinks sector she has worked with United Biscuits, Treasury Wine Estates, Kallo Foods & Sacla UK. At Food Strategy Associates she has worked with us on a number of projects providing consumer, shopper and market insights and analysis.

  • Nigel Devine

    Senior Expert Associate

    Nigel is Senior Associate of Food Strategy Associates and is a manufacturing and change management expert with over 20 years of experience in the food industry. He has a background in factory management with Northern Foods & Geest, and is an experienced leader of supply chain operations and business change programmes with Unilever, Greene King, Hain Daniels, 2 Sisters and Premier Foods. With Food Strategy Associates, he has led a number of operational focused assignments on strategy and commercial due diligence as well as operations process implementation.

  • Sara Battazzati

    Associate Analyst

    Sara is an Associate Analyst at Food Strategy Associates.  She is a qualified architect and has a Masters degree in Management in Food and Beverage from Bocconi.  She has worked at Mondelez within their Consumer Insights team.  She is fluent in Italian and French.   At Food Strategy Associates she has worked on market analysis and due diligence projects.

  • Anna Hristova

    Associate Analyst

    Anna is an Associate Analyst at Food Strategy Associates and holds an MSc in Finance from Stockholm School of Economics and a BSC from University of Bath.  She is fluent in Bulgarian and proficient in German and Russian. At Food Strategy Associates she has worked on market analysis and due diligence projects.

  • Richard Herbage

    Senior Expert Associate

    Richard is a supply chain expert focused on logistics, distribution and S&OP processes.  He has extensive experience in food industry supply chains operating in ambient, chilled and frozen temperature environments.  He was Supply Chain Director of Young’s Seafood and prior to that Supply Chain Director at Premier Foods.

    With Food Strategy Associates he has worked with us on a number of commercial and operational due diligence assignments including for snack food businesses and biscuit companies and provided advice to BFP on the closure of their Tamworth facility.

  • Malcolm Wilkes

    Senior Expert Associate

    Malcolm Wilkes is an npd expert and independent technical consultant.  He was previously Technical Director at United Biscuits.  He is a specialist in baked and fried snacks technologies with experience and insight in most food categories.

    He has worked with Food Strategy Associates on a number of strategy and due diligence projects where he has led on technical and cost reduction issues .

  • Gary Williams

    Senior Expert Associate

    Gary is a procurement expert, an independent procurement consultant and a non Exec Director at Orchard Valley Foods.  He was formerly Procurement Director at Burtons Biscuits and prior to that at McVitie’s and KP Snacks.  He has worked with Food Strategy Associates on a number of due diligence projects where he has led on the evaluation of procurement performance.

  • Ian Weston

    Ian is an expert in business strategy and transformation.  In the past year he has advised food industry clients on acquisitions in biscuits, snacks, packaging, and chilled meat products. Ian spent 5 years as Senior Vice President Special Projects with DowJones in New York, and led Corporate Development, Sales, and Operations departments at News International in London. Ian spent 7 years as a Consultant at Boston Consulting Group, he has an MBA from INSEAD and an MA from Oxford.

  • Andy Weston-Webb

    Senior Adviser

    Andy is a veteran of the branded food industry, having previously been Chief Commercial Officer of Nomad Foods (Birdseye Iglo)  where he was a successful member of the Executive team that sold frozen industry leading Iglo Foods out of private equity to Nomad.  He also held a variety of senior positions at Mars including President of Chocolate in Western Europe President of  Austrralia and New Zealand and European VP of Food.  Prior to working at Mars he held senior marketing positions at United Biscuits and Colgate Palmolive.
